Your day as an Assistant Senior Solicitor
Your typical day-to-day work will include providing support to senior lawyers, within our Office of General Counsel (OGC) in the development and provision of legal advice to support Treasury and/or Government commitments. You will undertake this function by researching, analysing and reviewing legal and policy issues, and providing legal advice on a specific area requested by a senior lawyer. Under the guidance of senior lawyers, you will:
- undertake statutory interpretation and legal review of documents such as contracts, Treasury policies, draft Bills and regulations and inter-agency arrangements such as MOUs
- contribute to various learning and development initiatives within the OGC and
- liaise with the Crown Solicitor’s Office/other external law firms as necessary to obtain specialist advice and manage interaction between the external legal advisers and Treasury stakeholders.
This role sits within the Budget, Finance, Economic & Policy (BFEP) branch of the OGC, which provides expert legal advice and support to Treasury's Policy & Budget, Economic Strategy & Productivity and Financial Management & Services groups. The branch supports a wide range of economic, public and policyareas and core Treasury functions including the annual State Budget process, management of the State's finances, tax policy and legislative reform, federal financial relations and competition and regulatory policy.

What you can bring to the role
In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW.
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Admission as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of NSW (or equivalent jurisdiction)
- Holds a current practising certificate
- Preferred minimum 2 – 3 years’ experience, including legal, policy and/or governance advisory experience in government
- Ability to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements
- Preferred understanding of the State Budget process
- During peak times, the role may be required to work outside business hours to meet statutory and parliamentary imposed deadlines
- Ability to give clear written and verbal advice while developing and maintaining key stakeholder working relationships
- The ability to work autonomously and provide justifiable advice in a team environment
- Ability to exhibit and model the OGC’s purpose, promise and principles in contributing to the work of the governance function within Treasury.

Eligibility
