LOCATION

Alpha Omega Senior College

POSITION PURPOSE

The Secondary English Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality English education to students in Years 7–12, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, and supporting students to achieve their academic potential. The teacher will contribute to the College's commitment to excellence in education, student wellbeing, and the development of strong literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective English lessons in accordance with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus requirements, including Stage 4-5 and Stage 6 content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective English lessons in accordance with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus requirements.
Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Develop students' literacy, analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date lesson plans, assessment records, and student reports.
Use a variety of assessment methods to monitor and evaluate student progress.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
Integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning practices.
Participate in curriculum development, review, and faculty planning initiatives.

Student Wellbeing and Behaviour Management

Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Implement the College's student wellbeing and behaviour management policies.
Promote positive student engagement, responsibility, and academic achievement.
Monitor student attendance and follow up concerns in accordance with College procedures.
Support students' social, emotional, and educational development.

Communication and Collaboration

Maintain effective communication with parents, carers, and staff regarding student progress and wellbeing.
Attend parent-teacher interviews, faculty meetings, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to support whole-school initiatives and programs.
Contribute positively to the College community and culture.

Administration and Compliance

Complete all required administrative duties accurately and within required timeframes.
Maintain student records, assessment data, and reports in accordance with College requirements.
Comply with all College policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
Participate in mandatory training and professional learning activities.
Fulfil playground, supervision, and other rostered duties as required.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Secondary English Teacher is expected to:

Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
Act as a positive role model for students.

Maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgement.
Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice.
Meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Hold and maintain current accreditation with NESA.
Hold and maintain a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).

SELECTION CRITERIAEssential

A relevant Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related discipline.
An accredited teaching qualification recognised in New South Wales.
Current NESA accreditation or eligibility for accreditation.
Current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
Demonstrated knowledge of the NSW Curriculum and NESA requirements.

Desirable

Postgraduate qualifications in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field.
Experience teaching Stage 6 English courses, including HSC English.
Additional qualifications or professional learning in literacy, differentiated learning, or educational technology.
